When I first sat the tattooo on Mai's arm, I laughed and pointed, "Lookit! It's Simba!"
Mai corrected me, "IT'S SIMBO DAMMIT!" and I chose to ignore him because I was under the impressiong that he was so inebriated at the time that he was likely mispronounciating the word.
Turns out, I was wrong: the lion inked into his right tricep is Simbo... which I always thought was a mistake given that this is Mai and I always pictured him as a...grizzly bear/panda-esque kind of person instead of a hairy beast. But, like all tattos received when sober, there was an actual reason behind it:
"I am very proud of who I am and I strongly believe in symbolism and where I come from."
Mai is actually a sunny, rolly-polly Leo, hence the roaring feline. He and his brother went out together back in '08 to "a shady parlor on Bird Road" that I pass every time I come to work that's decorated by marvel superheroes on the side of the building and had the tat done "by an artist that was drunk and coked up."
I'm not sure I would've stuck around if my artist was under the influence, but I do give him props for being the first person who didn't get it done at Lou's Tattoos like every other girl I know.
