"Take a Deep Breath" "What? Why??"

Did you know that when they pierce your nose, they shove a really, mother-effin long-ass needle through your nose?? Like, that sucker when through my nostril down to my chin!! And Tiff is there on the side, laughing her ass off, trying to find her cellphone in the black hole that is her bag because,

"I have to take a picture of this!" She comes over to my side and the burly man with the black gloves and huge plugs chuckles and points,

"Make sure you get a good shot of that single tear running down her cheek."

...Assholes. The both of them.

Ouch?

I woke up from last night's festivities with my knuckles slightly scratched and bruised. Not entirely sure why either...

Looks Like Damage to Me

...Well, damage to the Patriots at least. I don't particularly care for one team or another, but I figured since I was in New York, might as well represent the city. Granted, there came a point when I had to announce that I was going to leave at 4 minutes on the game so that I wouldn't have to watch the Giants lose...but then they got the ball back and the rest is pretty much history.

Italian Desserts Suck

Yeeah. Looks pretty delicious huh? Except they were kind of awful...and the one in the bottom? Every time I slipped it into my mouth tasted like someone just rung a dirty rag down my throat. Our bellies did not appreciate our trip to Little Italy. If anyone has a good place to suggest for decent, authentic Italian desserts that won't make me barf, please recommend ASAP.

9/11

It's not what I expected. For a memorial commemorating one of the greatest tragedies in the past century that rocked our country, I'm slightly underwhelmed when I arrive at the site where two gigantic pools. Idly, I wonder if the water that flows into these mini-Niagra-falls ever freezes over the winter and what the water bill upkeep is like for a place like this.

As I approach the counters, I realize that the black marble wrapped around the two pools are etched with names, separated by which building or plane they were in during 9/11, which department they were in that went into the buildings in an attempt to pull people out. It's daunting to round the pools, my hands skimming over names that don't seem to end and, while I know that it happened, it's still crazy in a way to actually be there where it all happened.

I was in eighth grade, in the back row of the first column of Mrs.Browman's homeroom period when our principal told us to turn on the news when the first tower hit and together, we watched as the second plane collided into the other tower. It was terrifying and confusing (I didn't even know where the World Trade Center was) and I remember crying into my Earth, Space, and Science class thirty minutes later.
The terror has seceded somewhat over the years, but as the names go on and on and on along the black counter, I find myself still asking why it had to happen.

Otowhattatoma?

Blair's "eight or nine" in the third grade when she has to go in for surgery. Throughout her life, she's had recurrent swimmer's ear, ear infections that never completely go away. By the time she's eight (or nine) she's developed a otosomethintoma that "wasn't cancer," she points out almost immediately, "Just this...growth that keeps growing in your ear."

Eventually, she has to go in for surgery to get the dang thing excised and biopsied. She doesn't remember if she ended up staying in the hospital but acquiesces that if she did, it was less than two days. Today, it's a small, clean scar behind her left ear, where she's kinda-sorta deaf in so I have to remember to stand on her right when I say something otherwise she probably never heard me in the first place.

Whoops

Is...is this a flat tire? It kinda looks like a flat tire. But I'm not sure what those are supposed to look like...except this looks pretty flat-ish... and my car flashed "LOW TIRE PRESSURE" on my ride home from work today. But...'Low pressure' doesn't necessarily mean 'flat tire' right? Right??

I realize that I should probably address this issue...buuuuuuuuuuuuuut I'm leaving in like 7 hours sooo this can be a problem for Miami-Maria as opposed to Leave-A-Message-At-The-Tone-Maria.
